The statement of the European Group on Ethics in Science and New Technologies (EGE) calls for a wide-ranging process of public deliberation and lays out a set of fundamental ethical principles to pave the way. Jeroen van den Hoven is one of the members of the EGE and rapporteur for this publication.
Jeroen van den Hoven has, together with Seumas Miller and Thomas Pogge, edited the volume Designing in Ethics, which has appeared with Cambridge University Press in December 2017. The contributors discuss a wide range of institutions and technologies, using case studies from among others the fields of healthcare, media and security.
Professor Jeroen van den Hoven has created a seven-week MOOC (massive online open course) on Responsible Innovation. It is called: Responsible Innovation: Ethics, Safety and Technology. Van den Hoven will argue the case for ethics as an integral part of responsible technological research and innovation in terms of assessing the risks of technologies such as AI. Professor Jeroen van den Hoven was appointed a Knight of the Order of the Netherlands Lion in a ceremony Rotterdam. He was honoured for his contributions as a philosopher in the agenda setting and solving of societal issues.
